The OWL Project

The past two deployments, I’ve typically written a few semi-regular essays on surviving deployment. They weren’t really anything official until Google Plus brought in the Collections feature and I was able to really separate these out from my other postings. One particular essay turned more into a letter like I would have written my younger self – even my self from the last deployment. I posted it up, mentioning that I’d changed the format, and this time I also cross-posted it on my personal Facebook page. The response was overwhelming, with a few friends asking for more…

and then more…

and more…

And they morphed into what I’m now calling The Open When Letter Project – better known as The OWL Project. And it went from one post to several more, to an entire file of ideas on my computer. I’m writing them as fast as I can when I feel I’m at a place where I can write them with authenticity, and when I’m even able to, what with the girls’ schedules these days!

The hope is that I will compile these essays into a book once complete. Below, you’ll find just a few of the essays that will eventually be found in book form.
