Burn the Evidence

Actually, no, that’s not at all what I’m doing. But it sounded wonderfully doom and gloom to say.

I completely cleaned house on this site. The Fiction page has been spruced up with some new stories, and there’s a new menu item now for The OWL Project.

There’s a few reasons for the house cleaning here, but a lot of it had to do with the simple fact that a lot of what I was keeping up on this site no longer reflects where I am now or who I am as a person. Not that there was anything bad, either, it’s just that it was scattered around – recipes and crochet stuff and health updates and military life posts and… you see where I’m going. I’m trying to refocus this place to center more around my writings. These posts will likely be general life updates, and also alerts when there’s something new to be had in the Fiction or OWL Project category.

For those who’ve been following for a bit, here’s a bit of an update:

Health Issues

The Meniere’s is still there. It’s more prevalent during seasonal changes – which means my body has finally acclimated to living in VA. Regular trips to the chiropractor are also helping. The hearing in my left ear is… meh. It’s difficult to really hear anything when there’s even just normal conversation going on in the background. I’d go in for a hearing test, but getting the VA to move on that… And I’m trying to switch my PCM.

Adventures in Minimalism

I’m actually falling back into a slight habit of retail therapy during deployment. This is, though, helping me to revamp my closet and wardrobe entirely. I should do a bit of a house tour to show how we’re keeping things these days. I’ve had to consolidate and pare down in other areas, though, so I think it’s kind of balancing? We’ll see. I still have some places in the house that need to be cleaned out and a bunch of crap to get rid of. The bonus is that MarvMan seems to be on the same page now, which makes things so much easier. Speaking of…

Military Life

We don’t even know. Seriously. He was selected for orders. There are issues. No one is responding to us. We are in a state of limbo and that is bothering the ever loving shit out of me. We’re hanging in as best we can, though, and working on just making it through one day at a time.

So, hey! How are you?

  1. I am fine. Have you ever considered Auditory Processing Disorder (there is a Wikipedia article). It exactly makes it hard to understand human speech in two circumstances. The first is low bandwidth like telephone. The second is when there is a lot of competing noise. One symptom might be that you have a harder time understanding rock lyrics than someone else, or another is that in a noisy environment like a coffee shop, or most especially somewhere with a lot of bright slap-back echo, you have a lot harder time understanding speech than someone else. It is pretty common that kids that are affected like this end up in speech therapy because they don’t pronounce things right. They might have an adorable lisp for example, but they do not hear that they are saying things differently than everyone else. It is a brain wiring thing, and the cool thing is that it has a genetic component, and they have interventions for kids now, like if you notice one of your kids experiences it , then something like the Suzuki method to learn an instrument like keyboard or violin can rewire the brain to ameliorate the impact of it. The Suzuki method is something you can home school. Speech therapy is a common thing too.
Of course, I am not at all discounting the Meniere’s disease, but I have read that there is a correlation, so thought I might give you an opportunity to look at your kids (and yourself) in the light of this. Hopefully it is nothing:)

    • Thank you so much! I hadn’t even considered that, but will definitely take it into consideration when I finally do get an appointment. The Suzuki method sounds fascinating as well – I’ll be looking that up!

      Hugs and love and light!
